This place definitely deserves 4 stars! This is a quaint little diner that has a big city feel. When you walk in the register in right in front and to your right is the more open part of the diner. To the left is/was a smaller space, I'm assuming for parties. I ordered the Turkey Devonshire, which is essentially an open faced sandwich. It can with sourdough bread, freshly sliced turkey, bacon, cheese and a thick creamy cheese sauce! I will say I was hesitant to try it, as there was a lot to handle!! However, the cheese sauce was so delicious. It was packed with flavor and it complimented the delicious turkey and bacon that was cooked. I'm not sure anyone else could top an open faced sandwich in comparison to this diner. Oh!! The complimentary pickles! Those thugs are so delicious and remind me wen I lived in Connecticut what wonderful little ma and pa diners they have and how absolutely delicious they are! If you are in town you must this place.

My first visit today for lunch. To be honest I am wary of restaurants that use the term "deli" in their names as they are usually pretty far from a true deli experience. River City Deli won't be confused with Katz's or any other New York City or East Coast city deli by any means, but I was surprised by the menu in that many of the listed dishes could be found in one of those places. A pleasant surprise were the pickled green tomato chips that came as a starter with the traditional dill pickle spears. I had never had green tomato pickles this way before and they were very good, good enough to ask for more to eat with my sandwich. I ordered the Rueben, with potato salad (it comes with one side) as well as a side of coleslaw. The Rueben was good, though a little smaller than I would have liked. The slaw was very good but I will have to give the potato salad a second try before passing judgment. The meal and an ice tea along with tip ran me $20. The server was friendly and gave me plenty of time to make up my mind. It took a bit of time to get my meal to me, but I don't mind too much of a wait rather than have my food slapped together and tossed at me. The place was busy and most everyone seemed to be a regular. The owner (I assume she was the owner) came out of the kitchen and talked with a few of the customers answering their questions One other note, it was nice to see MSNBC on the television instead of FOX "news". I look forward to coming back and trying some of the other deli items on the menu to see how they compare. Overall, a good lunch experience.

Our go to place for lunch and dinner and sometimes brunch. Very refreshing in this food desert. Chicken cap rede sandwich is amazing. The patty melt is great along with the Stacey. Great service. Can be pricey but worth it. We eat there like once a week or more.

Ralph, our waiter was on the ball. Food was delicious. Two of us had the open face turkey sandwich, yummy. Our son had the grilled corned beef overstuffed sandwich with fries, delicious. Hubby had the salad, looked like . . . A salad lol. Great choice, locally owned deli. Will be back.

Came in on a Sunday for brunch. Started off with the lox and cream appetizer. Didn't like it too much, the smokiness of the salmon was overwhelming. The Italian wedding soup was delicious. I forgot the name of the sandwich we got but our waiter said it was one of the most popular items on the menu. It was an open faced sandwich with turkey, bacon, melted cheese, and an orange, silky sauce on top. Baked and served hot. It was bland, in my opinion; my sister in law said the same thing. Point blank, our waiter was very friendly and service was quick. Will eat here again.

My partner, friends, and I go to River City Deli often, particularly for their brunch. The owner is a delightful person who opened up her restaurant for a local community group (River Valley Equality Center) for us to host our Pride Brunch a few weeks ago. She worked with us to create a menu for the event and was extremely helpful and communicative. The Good: I think the food at River City Deli is great and it has quickly become one of our favorite places to eat in town. The menu offers quite a bit for you to choose from. You start off with these amazing pickles and pickled tomatoes that take me back to my childhood of eating my grandfather's homemade pickles. We enjoy their appetizers, such as the loaded fries, the potato latkes, the brisket sliders, the lox and cream cheese spread, and the homemade potato chips (the dill sauce will change your life). I have mostly stuck to the various sandwich offerings and can happily recommend any of the following: Turkey Devonshire, Reuben, Stacey, and Chicken Cordon Bleu (my favorite). When we go at brunch I stick to one of the eggs benedict offerings available. The sides are tasty, particularly the potato salad. The Not-so Good: It is a little pricier than your average delicatessen down South. I think it's worth the money, but keep that in mind. They do cook everything to order, so that can create a bit of a wait during lunch. We tend to go when we can have a nice, leisurely meal and time isn't an issue. So, in conclusion - this is a really great place to eat. The food is great, though a bit pricey. Go when you have time to be leisurely.

A little more attentive service this trip. The Stacy was a little better. The cole slaw was drained better. The sandwich is so substantial that I could I could not finish the fries. Tried the key lime pie. Not your typical "frozen" pie. A little tart but good. Topped with Kiwi, interesting.

How does this place not have 5 stars? One of my favorite places to go when I visit Fort Smith and really one of the best sandwich places I've ever been. Yes, it does cost more than some places in the area, but you're generously compensated by the quality and flavor. Absolutely delicious meats that have my mouth watering as I type. My favorites are the Reuben and the Devonshire. This place is a true gem.

My family and I had the pleasure of eating here today. A large party had just unexpectedly sat down. The host noted that it may take 15-20 minutes to get out food and apologized. We were fine with that and sat down outside. The service was outstanding, the food was not delayed and all of us loved what we ordered. Our drinks were never empty. Thank you for a lovely meal today!!

I have been here many times and had many menu items. The open faced turkey sandwichbis my favorite so far, if you wanted to know. It sometimes takes a minute to get seated but its worth the weight. Locally owned with a great memu and engaged staff. If Ralph happens to be your server you will find he is really on the ball. The little details make this atmosphere nice. I would tell you but it wouldnt wound that impressive. ut Trust me, in the town of Fort Smith there are not many nice places like this with attention to detail. Ask for the pickles :) I will give you a hint, one is not really a pickle ;) enjoy.

River City is a nice surprise in a city full of chain restaurants. This particular visit (I've eaten here numerous times for dinner with my girls night out group and usually get the *very * tasty chicken cranberry chicken salad platter) was for brunch. I was happy to see a full restaurant and even though they were packed we were seated pretty quickly. The owner is super nice and was happy to see us- she made sure we had been attended and kept a watchful eye on the staff throughout our visit. The staff has had some "off" nights on my prior visits but they were hustling today. We ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a homemade "everything" bagel with a side of potato salad and it hit the mark on every count. The potato salad is not overdressed with mayo and the potatoes are mashed rather than cubed. A little different than what you expect but very tasty. We also ordered the 3 - egg omelet from the brunch menu with the potato latkes. Yes this is a New York-style deli so latkes and fresh bagels are standard !! Although the omelet was light and fluffy, the tomatoes I requested were canned instead of freshly chopped and it was over-salted. Ask your waiter to mention to the chef to leave the salt out and add your own! I've had friends tell me they tend to be heavy handed with the salt. Don't forget to get a chocolate chip cookie to go for later...You don't want to miss these! I bet the other homemade desserts are delicious too!

Unique food to try, great on a Saturday night when all the big chains are swamped. Staff very nice and quick. A little high on price but still in range of the service you get.

If you've been in a real deli, you will find this place not so good. Their food is middle-grade, and expensive. Frankly, I can make all the deli stuff I want myself, and people who have eaten my corned beef, pastrami, and matzoh ball soup find the food here unremarkable. The place itself is nice, looked clean, but the portions were small, and brutally expensive. 11.00 for two fatty slices of brisket? No thanks.

My daughters ate at River City Deli today and report that the cranberry chicken salad was good and that I probably ordered the wrong thing when I complained about the plainer chicken salad. I will return and order the fruited version.

First time visit! 1~2 minutes of waiting to be seated. 10~15 minutes FORGOTTEN about after being seated. While being circulated by 3 different servers. Surrounded by Fort Smith Soccer Moms decked out in Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Coach, and their fabulous bangles. As the true Yelp-ist I am, I spent most of the wait time after reviewing the menu adding this establishment! The seemingly completely freaked out server from across the restaurant ran up to our table wide-eyed, astonished by the lack of service apologetically helped my friend and I out. Said server, also a sweet man, brought us complementary pickled green tomatoes and pickled cucumbers! First time I've ever had green tomatoes! They were delishus! And the cucumbers were crisp and seem pretty fresh. My friend and I pigged out. We ordered: Brisket Sliders, Hot Pastrami Sandwhich, Lox & Bagels, and shared a Molten Chocolate Lava Cake, with each a side of fresh home made vanilla ice cream. The Brisket Sliders were pretty good. Stuffed with juicey, warm brisket in between a sweet roll. Decent, but could use more meat. My friend ordered the Pastrami Sandwhich, but I manage to nom on 1/4 of it. Also very good. Spicy mustard had a nice kick, her plate also came with a side of the potato pancake things. I don't really care for them much. I got the Lox and Bagels! Exciting thing is.. this is the only restaurant in Fort Smith that I'm aware of that has smoked salmon. Decent, but I've had a much more impressive combination else where (Dallas is amazing) Now for desert.. Oh. My. Gooosh. The home made vanilla is really good, paired with molten chocolate lava cake was almost heavenly. Despite the terribad, uncomfortable mix up at the beginning, The food certainly made up for the experience.

Well, I have to update my review of River City Deli. I LOVE the place! The wait staff seems 180º from when I first visited. They're on the ball, really friendly, and have a good sense of humor! Their Reuben and Rachel sandwiches are amazing, and worth a visit! I'm glad to see another local venue become such a good place to eat!

Though the name is a bit misleading - I was expecting stacked deli meats on a variety of breads like a true NY deli - the food is incredible. The Ruben is phenomenal, and the chicken salad is a perfect lunch item if you're looking for something light and clean. The Italian Wedding soup is a staple to the menu, and is the most authentic I've tasted outside an Italian grandmother's home! Besides the food the staff is always fantastic, very friendly and polite and the building is clean, modern and bright.

On my first visit to Arkansas my group attended an event in which we pre-ordered lunches & dinners for 3 days. Not being familiar with the city and locations of restaurants nearby, we ordered all of our meals. The variety of the selection was nice - the portion size was shamefully small. Lunches cost us $8: Caesar salad had 10-11 bites of romaine, 5 dice size chicken cubes, a sprinkle of Parmesan & dressing; burgers had a normal size bun with an overcooked, dry, small patty; chicken tenders 2-3 small portions with fries, feathers found on chicken; fruit salad also offered, 3 grapes, 1 pineapple cube, 2 watermelon cubes & 1/2 of one strawberry - some fruit had mold. Dinner cost us $12/$14, portions the same small size as lunch, Caesar salad identical to lunch; brisket plate had 2 pieces with a portion of potato salad the size of 1/2 a hard boiled egg, cole slaw was also offered, same small portion. All meals came with a cookie for dessert. I am not aware of the agreement between caterer and client, but I could never serve portions this small and call it a "meal". Please know that I am not a big eater, if the portions are piled too high on my plate, it isn't pleasing either. I have never eaten at their Rogers Ave. location, but I caution you about their catering. On a positive note, the Holiday Inn was very helpful - they drove me to the nearest grocery store so that I could purchase food for our group.

Got seated, waited about 15 minutes for them to acknowledge us again. He took our drinks and dinner orders without writing them down (which always makes me nervous). Waited over 45 minutes for our food after numerous people that got seated long after us got their food. Our waiter was the only one apologizing while the owners or managers or whatever they are, completely ignored us. When we couldn't take the waiting and ignoring anymore, we just left. Not a good experience.

My wife and I have eaten here twice just to be fair to the restaurant. A number of reviews mentioned poor service, but we did not have problems with our service. Our problems were with the food! We had both pastrami and corned beef sandwiches; the meat for which the owner said was shipped in from New York's Carnegie Deli. Unfortunately, both sandwiches were dry and had little flavor. The corned beef hash, which was homemade, is principally potatoes and was very lightly spiced--much less than I had expected. The potato and pasta salads were bland and the latkes seemed to be deep fried, which gave them an oily taste. I had to especially ask for sour cream for the latkes. My wife had the wedding soup, which she liked. And a little nit, the iced tea had an off flavor both times we visited. Rather than the tea being bad, I think that it is the result of the brand that they used. All and all, we were happy to see a deli in Fort Smith but were disappointed with the quality of the food.
